Good morning,

I just purchased DSLR Version of Sparkbooth a few days ago. I also purchased a Canon 40D in good working order that just arrived.

Let me just say that this is for a photobooth application on This Sunday (Father's day). I tested the camera that I received, I shot several images on to the card no problem. made sure the flash sync port was working and firing....and everything was ok.

When I plugged in for connection to sparkbooth, the program detected the camera, but then warned there was a firmware update available multiple times.

I'm under the impression that was supposed to be beneficial to operating sparkbooth.
I proceeded with a firmware update. The service on the camera crashed completely. I called Canon and they no longer support repair.

My main question to you today, as I no longer have access to the camera I purchased , is it necessary to have the firmware update on the camera in order for SparkBooth to work?

Not sure. I understand your question. If you no longer have the camera, how
    can you update the firmware?

I don't have an answer to your final question. I'm curious about the firmware failure. Does the camera function at all anymore? what happens when you power up?

The camera is sitting in front of me.

The firmware update did not work.

I am having a replacement camera sent overnight to me.

When the replacement comes in, is sparkbooth gonna work with it without a
    firmware update?

So main question is.. without plugin the camera to the USB, does the camera work?

For some models it works with better with the latest firmware. But if you
are not seeing any issues without a firmware update and it still works with
Sparkbooth, then you might be able to skip the update and just ignore the
    update notification.
